Once again The Smart Camper’s Voice brings you the best camping sites around the US. On this feature we take you to the Sunshine StateFlorida, a state known for its latin flavor as well as for its beaches, it is also a camper’s dream. The recreational alternatives are great for any outdoors enthusiast since you have from wetlands and forests to coral reef and marine sanctuaries. The night scene is also a great one, but we are not here to discuss where to find a good mojito. We are here to talk about great places were to set your camp ground when in Florida.

With nice weather all year around, it is no secret that Florida is a favorite location for retirement. Although it’s the unique weather that created some of the amazing camping spots in the Sunshine State. We are gonna look into 3 key locations.

Everglades National Park: A World Heritage Site, the Everglades is home to a subtropical wilderness unique in the US. Habitat to many endangered species such as the Florida panther and the Manatee, the Everglades is a landscape without parallel.  With camping sites accessible via hiking as well as kayak and canoe, just remember to get your backcountry permit required for all wilderness campsites.

Bahia Honda State Park: A snorkeling paradise as well as so much more. Bahia Honda located on Big Pine Key is not only a beautiful location to camp but the drive to get there is a pretty cool view by itself. If you are also looking into some fishing this is the place to come for some tarpon, just remember to get your required fishing license. With 3 different camping sites withing the park, this is a location you don’t want to miss.

Highlands Hammock State Park: A unique park for its views and amazing landscapes. One of Florida’s oldest parks, opening to the public in 1931. This park is home to thousand year old oaks and a boardwalk through the canopies and swamps. A true photographer’s dream! With various camping facilities that range from full service to primitive campsites with no water or electricity access.
