The Smart Camper’s Voice / Entry 15
Happy New year to all our readers!! 2015 was a great year since it saw the birth of the Smart Camper’s Voice and 2016 should be great as well. It’s time to start planning your camping trips for the year. Every month there are tons of activities for the camping aficionado. This year there is a huge celebration taking place all around the country and smart campers can plan ahead and benefit from this. What we are talking about is that the National Park Service will be celebrating their 100 anniversary in 2016. With this milestone, the park service is launching Find Your Park, a public awareness and education campaign to celebrate the milestone centennial. Current First Lady Michelle Obama and former Laura Bush will serve as honorary co-chairs to promote the celebration.
During 2016, the National Park Service will offer a total of sixteen days during the year when the admission will be free on all parks. This means that more than 2,000 national parks, national forests, national wildlife refuges, and other federal lands won’t charge any fee for these days. This has been done to encourage everybody to join the 100-year celebration and have a good time. It doesn’t matter if it’s your first camping trip or not, just load your bags or your RV and hit the road. The hard part is going to be where to go with so many options in each state. Please check the list bellow for all the days that free admission will take place this year.
January 18 – Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
April 16 through 24 – National Park Week
August 25 through 28 – National Park Service Birthday (and the following weekend)
September 24 – National Public Lands Day
November 11 – Veterans Day
With the dates in your calendar taken down, you just need to start planning your next camping trip and what better way than with the National Park Service taking care of it’s patrons!
