Fishing in the Twin Lakes
Time to fish in the Twin Lakes
In Colorado, there are many fishing sites in both rivers and lakes. One of these sites is the Twin Lakes, which offer the possibility of fishing a variety of trouts, in a spectacular rocky mountain landscape.
The lakes are located halfway between the historic mining town of Leadville and the tourist enclave of Aspen. They offer many activities for campers, mountain bikers, hikers and of course fishing.
For fishermen, the two lakes are home to the rainbow trout, kokanee, lake trout, and white anchovy sucker.
These lakes are the largest naturally formed glacial lakes.
In the decade of the 90s, rainbow trout decreased its population, thanks to protectionist measures, the population was regenerated, and now trout 8 inches long can be found.
Throughout the year you can fish in the lakes. When the thaw occurs, it is good to fish near the hydroelectric dam.
The Twin Lakes have been expanded to provide additional water storage for the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project. This diverts water from the western mountains of the state from population centers in the plains, such as Denver and Colorado Springs.
Many fishers go on boats to look for trout in deeper waters.
The Wildlife Division inspects all vessels in the twin lakes, other lakes, and reservoirs in Colorado to detect invasive species, such as zebra mussels and quagga.
The navigation is open for sailors, and fishers from 6 am to 9 pm.
All vessels must be launched from the Dexter Point ramp.
Fishing in the Twin lakes does not require any payment of fees, but people who want to go fishing must obtain their Colorado fishing license.
