If you’ve never been to Aspen and the Snowmass area, or if you are a regular visitor and want to try something different, these are some campgrounds that you can go to on your next camping trip in Colorado.

Lincoln Creek Campground

Located about 11 miles south of downtown Aspen. This is the place for the true outdoorsman, as the access requires a 4×4 vehicle. You can enjoy rock climbing, endurance hikes, and nature watching. It has 22 primitive-style campsites like in the old times without water, toilets, or electricity.

Maroon Creek Campground

It features wild sites surrounded by thick alpine woodlands. You can enjoy some recreational activities like fishing,  swimming, and whitewater rafting. There are more than 790 acres of ski slopes for skiers situated at nearby Aspen Highlands. Other Maroon Creek Campgrounds, like number 2, 3 and 4 have similar accommodations and are located near each other.

Weller Campground 1,2,3 & 4

Located about nine miles east of Aspen. The family-friendly property features easy access to points of interest like Roaring Fork River and the Weller Lake Trail. The site rental fee also includes water and trash collection.

Lost Man Campground

For those who love dogs, this site permits pets if they are on a leash at all times. Campers have access to many amenities such as vault toilets, picnic tables, fresh water, and free firewood. Take into account that the campground opens from mid-June through mid-September. The only setback is that it doesn’t have amenities for handicapped.

Difficult Campground

It’s the biggest in the area because 235 people can be accommodated there. Most sites are shaded by tall trees, and it has easy access to many trails and favorite fishing spots.

Castle Creek Campground

This amazing, wild and primitive campground offers cozy tent sites close to the creek. This campground is perfect for anglers seeking rainbow or brown trout. The skiers have access to 84 different slopes. A four-wheel drive vehicle is the best option to get there.
